You Never Know!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  It is a GORGEOUS day here in Rhode Island and we are all just hoping that this beautiful weather will continue through to the Summer months.  With Spring well on its way and Summer fast-approaching, now is the major time for the event industry.  Events can obviously be planned for any time of the year, but the Spring, Summer and early Fall is what many event planners call the “Busy Season” for this industry.  That being said, today I’m just going to write a quick post to summarize some of the activities that I’m getting my hands on this season.

Right now I have a few independent event gigs going on; a joint Sweet 16 Party, a Wedding for one of my closest friends from high school, and another Wedding for a friend!  The Sweet 16 Party is taking place this Saturday – so as soon as that has commenced, I will share some photos and details on the planning process (teaser pics below!).  The weddings are still in the very early planning stages, but as soon as there is something fun to share – I will!

In the past couple of weeks I have been able to witness the benefits of good networking first hand.  Last Fall, my Mom introduced me to a very well known event planner in Rhode Island named John Orton.  He has done some FABULOUS events, check them out on his website & blog HERE.  So, I am excited to report that now that the “Busy Season” has commenced, I am going to be helping him with a few fabulously glam events – details TBA!

I have also been approached about taking on the position of Festival Director for Providence’s Bright Night, which – as you may remember from my older posts – is an artist run festival that takes place in the city of Providence, RI each New Year’s Eve.  Last year I volunteered for the festival a little bit and had a large hand in putting on the talent competition for kids called Bright Night’s Got Talent.  This year they want me to do even more – so I will be attending some meetings in the next few weeks to determine what exactly my role will be and if I want to take on the responsibility and honor of being the Festival Director.

It is absolutely amazing what the power of networking can do for individuals in this industry – hence the title of this post being “You never know!” because you really don’t know how effective your networking skills can be until you see them paying off first hand with opportunities you never expected to be extended your way.  I honestly feel that I am at an advantage, living in such a small state like RI, because nearly everyone knows each other and most people are happy and willing to give help when it is needed and provide opportunities for experience and growth.  So, the moral of this post is – always be friendly and willing to meet people and maintain regular contact with people you get along with and would want to work with.  Hard work and a positive demeanor can really pay off!

You never know what you can do until you try!
